1) Creating a Drop-Down Menu in Microsoft Excel

Here are the steps on how to create a drop-down list in Microsoft Excel:-

  1. Choose a cell where you wish to show your drop-down menu.
  2. Visit the Data.
  3. Tap on Data Validation.
  4. Choose the list in the allowed menu.
  5. Enter your option in the source field.
  6. Save that change you have done.
  7. To get starting, you need to choose a cell in a spreadsheet where you wish to see the drop-down option.
  8. Turn the Home tab to the data option.
  9. In the data tools option, tap on the data validation option.
  10. Choose the same option that you have chosen earlier.
  11. Now enable allow drop-down list, and choose list.
  12. Here you need to type all the option.
  13. If you want to see on your screen like AA, BB, and CC, then you need to type in the column.
  14. Here no matter how many options you wish to provide, you only need to spread them by using a comma.
  15. After inputting a comma in each column, you only need to tap the OK button.
  16. After the above process, you can find the drop-down menu on your screen.
  17. You can also add error message on the column.
  18. The error message only appears on the screen when the user types a different value from the given value.

2) Creating a Nested Drop-Down List in Microsoft Excel

Here are the steps on how to create a nested drop-down menu in Microsoft Excel:-

  • Launch the Data validation windows.
  • Choose a list that is allowed on the menu.
  • Enter a range on the source field like (=SAS1:SAS6).
  • According to the chosen range, the new drop-down list will appear on the screen with the same option that written in the A1 to A6 cells.

3) Creating a Drop-Down Menu in Google Sheets

Here are the steps on how to create a drop-down list in Google sheets:-

  1. Choose any cell.
  2. Go to the data.
  3. Tap on data validation.
  4. Choose the items list.
  5. Type your option and item in the cell.
  6. Save the changes you have done.
  7. Now choose any cell in a spreadsheet.
  8. Tap on the data in the top navigation option.
  9. Choose Data validation option on the list.
  10. Enable Criteria drop-down list, and then choose the list of item.
  11. Here you need to type all the option in the blank box.
  12. Now tap on save option to preview the drop-down list.
  13. As like Microsoft Excel, Google sheet also popup a warning when you enter the wrong value in the cell.
  14. It allows error notification with custom text.
  15. If you wish to remove the error notification, then you need to select the Reject input in the data validation tab.

4) 3) Creating a Nested Drop-Down List in Google Sheets

Here are the steps on how to create a nested drop-down list in Google sheets:-

  1. Google Sheet also the same as the Microsoft Excel sheet.
  2. Here only the name of the option is a difference.
  3. Here you need to choose the list from a range and then tap on the Criteria list.
  4. Enter the range according to your needs like (=$A$1:$A$6).
  5. The above command will allow the text A1 to A6 cells in the drop-down options list.
